Vale Dick Peel
• Neil Gannon writes: “I advise with sadness the passing of Bro. Dick Peel of Tresco Lodge No. 289 at around 11.45am on Friday. At this stage no final arrangements are available.”

VIDEO: ‘How to do’ Zoom meetings
• The suggestion is that Victorian Lodges meet at least once a month on their normal Lodge night, and that they do so by Zoom. During the pandemic restrictions, with all Masonic Centres closed until at least December 31, Lodges may not conduct ritual, or give signs in Zoom meetings, but they can attend to Lodge business, engage in Masonic Education (lectures), and have much-needed social contact.
• Lincolnshire’s (UK) video communications wizard Chris Watkin has put together an invaluable tutorial to help everyone stay in touch until we can ‘resume normal service’ again. LINK

Missing Persons Bureau
• Paul Brennand, Grand Superintendent of Membership, was put in touch with his namesake cousin in the UK, thanks to an enquiry through thewww.FVNews.com.au website.• Our Paul explains: “There really is another Paul Brennand. We grew up together in London – he was known as ‘Big Paul‘ and I was known as ‘Little Paul‘! We have been out of contact for probably 50 years. I guess he must have done a search on his own name and found me.”

From our Taskforce Chair
• Gary Edwards, Chairman of the Freemasons Victoria Taskforce, writes: “While the Taskforce is sadly unable do little or provide much help during the lockdown, except for its members making phone or Zoom catchup contact with all our brethren and Lodge widows, as was well suggested by Bro. Liam, your FVNews is a wonderful forum for contact, involvement and interaction. I hope all brethren get involved in contributing to FVNews, and with making catchup calls.

• “In Friday’s FVNews mention was made of ‘Three Tuns Tavern‘. Others may know, but through my ignorance, I had no idea what a “tun” is or was. I’ve now learnt that it’s a large beer keg, with a volume equal to four hogsheads. Did it weigh a ton?  But what a great name for a pub!”

$9 mil. needed in South Australia
• Kent Henderson passes on a press item detailing that $9 million would be needed “to fix the historic, ageing Freemasons Hall on North Tce (Adelaide) after an inspection revealed alarming findings – meaning it might have to be sold.”
• “The historic heritage-listed building, which opened in 1927, has “extensive concrete cancer”, a recent audit has revealed, with one side of the building now closed for initial improvements. Grand Master Neil Jensen said the Freemasons of South Australia and the Northern Territory either had to raise or borrow “significant funds” to cover extensive repairs or consider “cutting our losses by selling the building outright”.“The other consideration is whether a mixed-use commercial and residential venture on the site would be commercially viable and exploring if it could provide an income stream to cover ongoing costs associated with the heritage-listed original building,” Dr Jensen said. A postal vote for its approximately 1500 members will be held this month,” The Advertiser reported.

How to set up a new Lodge
• Ange Kenos of the Lodge of Commerce writes: “The next Zoom meeting will be held at 7pm on Monday, July 27. Our Guest Speaker will beBro. Ravi Rajan from Lodge Observance. His topic will be How to set up a new Lodge, and will discuss the process and background of Lodge Bharat,  which was conceived as an idea nearly five years ago. Please forward any questions on the subject to mesecretary@lodgeofcommerce.net so that Ravi can prepare replies on the night. He will also reply to questions without notice and the meeting will be thrown open for everyone’s input. All Brethren, Ladies and visitors are most welcome.” LINK

World News
• The London Post reports: “London Masons through the Masonic Charitable Foundation have helped fund a new Assistive Technologist forAmbitious about Autism charity who enable young people with complex autism to communicate more effectively through technology.• “The £60,000 grant to Ambitious about Autism will fund an Assistive Technologist over three years, who will enable young people with complex autism to communicate more effectively through technology. The young people all attend Ambitious College which is a specialist autism day college based in The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London and West Thames College.” LINK

Ash Long – as the FMV communications leader, where are the outcomes of the Board of General Purpose meetings that where heralded a number of times as being published after Board meetings? The first Board meeting of the new team was on the 9th July (2nd Thursday) and we have seen no outcomes and decisions, with the exception of no lodge meetings? What else is being done at the moment please? What decisions have been made? How are they being shared with the membership?
