R U OK?
• R U OK? is an Australian suicide prevention organisation. It revolves around the slogan “R U OK?” (are you okay?), and advocates for people to have conversations with others. The organisation has a dedicated R U OK? Day, held annually on the second Thursday of September, which encourages Australians to connect with people who have emotional insecurity, to address social isolation and promote community cohesiveness.
• R U OK? inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the  people around them and start a conversation with anyone who may be struggling with life. You don’t need to be an expert to reach out – just a good friend and a great listener. • Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:
1. Ask R U OK?
2. Listen
3. Encourage action
4. Check in

The Wakanyanas Story (1)
• Bob Pullin shares this: “In 1916 three mutual friends – all Freemasons, decided to have a supper at Barry’s Cafe in Point Lonsdale. They all chose crayfish and after their sumptuous meal, there was some small change left over, only a few shillings, which they gave to the Cottage by the Sea. Several friends were invited to join them at supper on December 28,1917, where the foundation was laid down for the Wakanyanas Groupand again a donation was made to the Cottage by the Sea.• “The founders were T.J. (Tom) Sealy, J.C. (Jack) Kelsall and H.D.(Harry) Hirst, who based their funding of the Wakanyanas on the principle that we Freemasons who are enjoying a holiday, should have a “get-together” as near to December 28 each year, enjoy themselves and raise funds to assist underprivileged children to have a holiday.
• “Originally Wakanyanas met at the cafe in Point Lonsdale, but outgrew this venue and so moved to the Point Lonsdale Public Hall. Wakanyanas continued to grow and so larger premises were required, so in 1942 the tribe moved to the Queenscliff Masonic Centre, where it still meets today. Former Prime Minister, Bro. Sir Robert Menzies, Bro. Sir  Hubert Opperma, Bro. Tom Holloway MLA were all active participants in Wakanyanas. In the intervening years, Wakanyanas has raised in excess of $178,000 for the Cottage by the Sea, with the 2019 gathering raising $3428. In addition to financial aid, those attending are asked to bring along items of toiletries to be given to the children on their arrival at Queenscliff.

The Wakanyanas Story (2)
• Bob Pullin continues: “Each year a ‘Big Chief‘ is elected to take charge of the next year’s meeting. So elected in 2019 was Peter Julier. AtWakanyanas the principle of “That rank is but the Guinea Stamp, the Man himself the gold” is adhered to, so when attendees are called upon to introduce themselves, they give their name, lodge name and number and the name of their wife/partner if they are present, only. If you stray from this simple practice you will be fined. So each year masons from the MWGM to the newest EA join together in peace, love and harmony to enjoy fellowship together, a delightful meal and listen to a guest speaker and most importantly, raise money for under-privileged children to have a holiday at the beach.
• “One of the highlights of the day is the charity auction, conducted by Don Robinson, who derives enormous pleasure in extracting dollars from senior Freemasons in particular. So this year, December 28, 2020, it will be 104 years since that first meeting of the three brethren in Point Lonsdale and we are delighted that so many Freemasons with their wives/partners will be there to celebrate this historic occasion.”

Multiplier Effect
• Jeff Cripps writes: “I thought you might be interested to know, (since you have been counting new subscribers), that as the Secretary of No.80, I forward your daily news sheet to the members of my lodge plus a few others, including an American, who has also circulated one or two copies to his members. In all, I think there are about 50- 60 recipients on a daily basis. I have yet to hear from someone saying unsubscribe me. A tremendous effort and I note it  is growing in size. Keep up the great work.”

Masonic Mailbag
• Kent Henderson is careful to research Masonic pedigrees before adding those people to his texts. He offers an example: “Roald Amundsen, the famous Norwegian Arctic explorer. He is widely claimed across the internet as a Freemason, but no evidence provided. Doubtlessly is was a bit of “Shackleton and Scott were Masons, so Amundsen must have been”; very much the that elephant is pink, therefore all elephants must be pink syndrome. So I checked directly with the Grand Lodge of Norway, who advise they have no evidence he was ever initiated in a Norwegian Lodge, or anywhere else.”

Money Doubled By Masons
• The Lincoln Courier (Lincoln, Illinois, USA) reports the Illinois Masonic Grand Lodge has a policy of matching funds when a Lodge raises money and then donates the money to a local non-profit. READ MORE

World News
• The Hawk Eye (Iowa, USA) reports: “The Burlington Masonic Temple and its attendant lodges have combined a wartime icon and gardening to promote a message of unity and a call to action. Posters of Rosie the Riveter, the World War II cultural icon meant to inspire patriotism in the women’s workforce, now hang on the south end of the Masonic Temple. Below the posters is a small flower garden in the shape of a square and compass, the icon representing Freemasonry.” LINK
