Board reports now available
• Did you know that the Freemasons Victoria Board of General Purposes, led by Myles King, now offers reports of its monthly meetings?
• Sign on at the freemasonsvic.org.au website, go to ‘Messages‘, and select ‘Board Reports’
• Last month’s report contains items on Finances, the Strategic PlanOrganisation Review and Restructure, a Major Project, the Masonic Behaviour ReviewVolunteer Action Teams, the Taskforce,Committee appointments, Board Members Selection, aConcordat between Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite (ASSR) and Freemasons Victoria, reports to the Board.

Public Speaking Workshop
• Sunbury Lodge advises that itwill be providing a Public Speaking Workshop exclusively related to Masonic Meetings. Special guests will be Heather and Neil Addison who are two of Rostrum Victoria/Australian Rostrum’s most experienced trainers and speakers. Plenty of opportunity for participation as much of the knowledge is passed on through the coaching and feedback rather than set material. Prepare by thinking of a short story or fact you would like to share.
 • It has been said that “those who are not confident public speakers make the best speakers. Those that think we are good public speakers usually need the most help.” In recent years many of the winners of the Rostrum speaking competitions have actually been people who have just joined Rostrum and speaking at competition level for the first time. 7.30pm, Friday, October 9. LINK

The Press and Freemasonry
• Dr Paul Calderwood will address the topic of ‘The Press and Freemasonry’ at the New Zealand Masonic Forum Service at 5.30pm AEDT on Sunday (Oct. 11). Meeting notes say: “Why didFreemasonry’s public image change so much for the worse during the 20th Century? This question struck Paul Calderwood many years before he delivered the 2013 Prestonian Lecture on the subject. He became a Freemason in the early 1970s and towards the end of that decade began to notice the declining tone of newspaper coverage: ‘By the 1980s, it was pretty dire. I was amazed at the things I read in newspapers.
• “As a former daily newspaper journalist, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and a Mason for over 40 years, Bro. Paul has a background that is well suited to undertake a study ofFreemasonry and the Press. in 2010, Quatuor Coronati Lodge No. 2076 awarded him the Norman B. Spencer Prize.” Meeting ID: 522 226 6105. Passcode: 0FGBt7 – first letter is zero. (Thanks Nikolas Sakellaropoulos.)

Masonic Mailbag
• Nikolas Sakellaropoulos writes to FVNews Daily: “You are doing valuable and effective work – this is in part because you are providing an informative and cringle-less news-sheet. Over the decade or so of our having various on-line bulletins, they have invariably been drowned out by the usual non-news of “Lodge Initiates Candidate” or “Person presents (small value) Big Cheque to someone-or-other”. Your news-sheet is refreshingly devoid of these (long may it stay so) AND provides genuinely interesting items in the form of Masonic Wisdom and Famous Freemasons; the Event listing, especially, is incredibly valuable.”
