UPDATED: Our Future Recovery
• The Freemasons Future Recovery Team met again yesterday (Thurs.) as part of our organisation planning its cautious steps towards re-opening Lodges beyond the COVID-19 restrictions set by the Government and health authorities.
• Acting with the advice of the FFRT, the Board of General Purposes last night re-affirmed its earlier decision that all Victorian Masonic Centresare closed until at least December 31, 2020, before which time the Board will consider latest developments regarding the timing and any conditions of any re-opening across Victoria. Currently, Lodges may only meet ‘virtually’ using media platforms such as Zoom, and observing the modified ritual which has been circulated. A limited number of other options are being examined.
• The Board has again emphasised the need for Lodges to communicate with all its members (especially those who may not have digital communication), our widows, and our candidates.
• In the same way that all members would like to see a return to physical meetings at the soonest possible date, Board members also want to see a return to ‘normal’. However, given that many of our members fall into the most vulnerable demographic, there is a special responsibility for our organisation to take every possible step to protect the health of our people and their families. The Board will communicate any progress at the earliest possible opportunity.
Stay Home. Stay Well. Stay Connected.

Freemasons Future Recovery Team
• Members of the Freemasons Future Recovery Team met yesterday (Thurs.) in their continuing work in preparing for the eventual re-opening ofLodges and Masonic Centres across Victoria, hopefully in 2021. The recommendations of the FFRT, which is led by Anthony Bucca, Deputy Grand Master, are referred to the Board of General Purposes.

Origins of the Oddfellows
• Fred Shade will speak on ‘The Oddfellows – Their Origin, History and Ritual’ at the Victorian Lodge of Research at 7.30pm on Friday, October 23. Brendan Kyne notes: “The Oddfellows appeared on the scene in England soon after the founding of the Grand Lodge of England (1717), and grew rapidly. It spread to other countries including America and the Australian colonies. They soon outnumbered Freemasons. Its rituals are not a copy of Freemasonry, although the Craft has had an obvious influence on them, especially in the 19th century.” LINK
• This presentation will include a brief history, some ritual extracts, and 30 very colourful illustrations.

Comms Success Stories

The Foodbank provides food and essential services to anout 60 families each week. LINK (Thanks to Neil Cripps)

Masonic Knowledge
• Roy Rogers (real name: Leonard Franklin Slye) (1911-1998) – Dubbed “King of the Cowboys”, Roy Rogers was the typical ‘all-American’ actor and singer who played a singing cowboy in Western films. Always wearing a white hat, Rogers played the hero who never killed his opponent but rather would shoot him in the hand to disable him. Roy Rogers was a member of Hollywood Lodge No.355, California, and has proudly displayed on his Masonically inscribed gravestone, the Cross of his faith and his 33rd Degree Masonic emblem.

Masonic Wisdom
• “If we want to make our contribution to the pacification of the world, it is our duty to present to the world the spectacle of a rich country with a great people, with an adequate population – with a population which may justly say to the rest of the world: ‘We are here; we propose to maintain our integrity as a nation; and our warrant for that is that we are using the resources which God has given into our hands.’ The case for immigration on a grand scale is, indeed, an irresistible one.” – Bro. Sir Robert Menzies

The Last Word
• “You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” – Bro. Dale Carnegie
