Mentor Program Launch

• Peter White writes: “We held the launch of the Mentor Program on Tuesday night last week. It was extremely well received by the more than 160 Freemasons who logged in. Can I say thank you to you in particular for the excellent guidance you gave us and the support of the Communications VAT. Your support has given us a great kick start and we are already receiving large numbers of applicants to the program.

• “Many other Freemasons who missed the launch have requested that they be able to see the event. I have therefore placed the recording on YouTube. It is in its raw format with none of the pauses, etc. edited out of it. So anyone watching it will share the exact experience of those who attended on the night.”

Comms Success Stories

The Philippine Times published an extensive report on the first anniversary of the Plaridel Lodge No 1893. The report was authored by Thad Mangalino, and included a reference to Felix Pintado making a presentation using photographs and anecdotes to trace the Lodge’s history. The story was presented as one jurisdiction extending the hand of friendship to another.
St George Lodge meeting cancelled
Ken Calder advises that the St George Lodge meeting scheduled for Monday (Oct. 19) has been cancelled due to a bereavement in the family of the Lodge Master.

World News
• The Citrus City Chronicle (US) reports: “From their headquarters in the heart of Floral City’s Historic District, the members of Floral City Masonic Lodge No. 133 have voted to lock the doors on one chapter of the group’s history and open a window to their future. The members unanimously voted, as of Sept. 30, to merge their 127-year-old, 46-member fraternal (all-male) organization with Springs Lodge No. 378 of Homosassa Springs.” LINK

Famous Freemasons
• Zukor, Adolph (Born: Adolph Cukor) (1873-1976 aged 103) – Originally from the village of Ricse in Hungary, Adolph Zukor emigrated to North America when he was 16. Originally obtaining work as an apprentice furrier, in time, he came to own his own profitable fur business. He got into the moving picture industry in 1903, when he formed the Famous Players Film Company with Marcus Loew. The actress Sarah Bernhardt was one of his earliest ‘stars’ with the company eventually evolving into the legendary Paramount Pictures. Zukor was a Freemason in Centennial Lodge No.763, New York.
– Timothy Horton

Masonic Knowledge
• Masonic Etiquette. “Side” talk while a degree is being conferred is considered bad manners. Why? The lodge room is a Temple of the Great Architect of the Universe. The brethren within are working to make the best ashlars (stones) for His spiritual temple.

• Just as it is impolite to talk in a church, synagogue or mosque service, so it is improper to distract the officers, the workers in the degree or the candidate. Talking without asking to do so shows irreverence for the proceedings. God’s house is not for social conversation within the lodge room. It is for worship and learning the lesson of the day which is being taught.

• Unless you have requested of the Master to speak, silence is the rule. This also means no whispering. HOW? If you have something of interest to say, raise your hand. When the Master recognizes you, you must stand up, and be recognized by the Master to speak.

Masonic Wisdom
• “A surprise inspection, by the Grand Architect of the Universe, of the Temple of the Heart of a true Mason will probably find more flaws to be corrected but will never find rust on the Tyler’s sword of the true Mason.” – Santa Monica-Palisades Lodge.

The Last Word
• “We can only know the fullest joys of Masonry when we truly walk the paths of service and of hard work in the quarries.” – Bro. George E. Burow
