Vale Peter Fleming

• We regret to advise of the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of Wor. Bro Peter Andrew Fleming, formerly of Athenaeum Lodge, at age 76.

70-year jewel to Rob

• Matt DeNatris writes: “Wor. Bro John Cleal PGStdB (PM of Wangaratta Lodge of St John) presented Wor. Bro. Rob Hill with his 70-year service jewel. Wor. Bro John was accompanied by brethren and their partners at a local club after a social dinner (as current restrictions allowed). The presentation also included a tribute to both Rob and his wife Beth who have made a huge contribution to all activities of the lodge for many years.”

Masonic Mailbag

• Ian Sterritt writes: “I was interested in Timothy Horton’s piece on Richard J. Seddon, (FVNews Daily, Monday, Dec. 7). Seddon Lodge No. 242 was consecrated in 1918 and named after Richard J. Seddon, Grand Master, New Zealand, as was the area between Yarraville and Footscray, being the home of many prominent and well known Freemasons in the district.

• “Seddon Lodge was the Mother Lodge to many Freemasons, some of which are still active and are members of Yarraville Lodge No. 164, and was one of seven “blue” Lodges that met at Yarraville. It was originally sponsored by the Hope of Yarraville Lodge No. 164. Unfortunately Seddon went the same way as many other Lodges, eventually joining with Spotswood Lodge and ultimately affiliating with Hope of Yarraville-Mt. Zion Lodge No. 164 in 1996 to form Yarraville Lodge No. 164.”

Masons help Salvos

• ”Ohio Masonic Home $25K gift helps Springfield Salvation Army fulfill increasing need’, reports the Springfield News-Sun. “”The Springfield Salvation Army received a $25,000 donation to assist in providing Christmas to over 3000 children in need. Clark County families signed up at the end of October to be adopted this Christmas through the Springfield Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. Their kids’ names, genders, ages, sizes and toy wishes were printed on angels and distributed to various locations.” LINK

Along with his wife, he founded and endowed Leland Stanford, Jr. University (1885) in memory of their only son, who died in 1884 at age 15.
