Wearing Masks is Mandatory

• Garry Runge, Grand Secretary, yesterday (Thu.) circularised Lodges, following advice from Premier Daniel Andrews: “Masks will be mandatory in public indoor spaces. This means that all members must wear masks at all times at Masonic Centres, except when eating and drinking.

• “Lodges holding gatherings at private homes are reminded that it is strongly recommended that masks are worn by all people. The limit on the number of people gathering in a household will be reduced from 30 to 15, meaning the household members plus 15 visitors (excluding children under 12 months of age). The most recent Government advice is: “If you are planning to leave your home – take a mask.”

• “You are also reminded that there is no obligation on members to attend their Lodge during these difficult times. Lodges are reminded to keep up-to-date with the latest Government rules. The health and safety of members and their families is the highest priority of Freemasons Victoria. For more information, visit www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au  Further updates will be published as they become available.”

• Richard Elkington, Grand Master, mentioned ‘Lewis Pins’ in his latest video chat. Ken Barnes writes: “Thirty three years ago my proposer, Bro. Rob Furmston, a Lewis having been proposed by his father, Wor. Bro.George Furmston, and seconded by his future father-in -law Wor. Bro. John Demo (at the time Robert was innocently unaware of the Masonic plot), and it was my privilege, as Master of Commonwealth Lodge to present Rob with his 40-year pin last Monday. Can I obtain a Lewis pin for him?”

Famous Freemasons
Bro. Charles Augustus Lindbergh (February 4, 1902 – August 26, 1974) was an American aviator, military officer, author, inventor, and activist. At the age of 25 in 1927, he went from obscurity as a U.S. Air Mail pilot to instantaneous world fame by winning the Orteig Prize for making a nonstop flight from New York City to Paris. Lindbergh covered the 33½-hour, 3600-statute-mile (5800 km) flight alone in a purpose-built, single-engine Ryan monoplane, the Spirit of St Louis. While the first non-stop transatlantic flight had been made eight years earlier, this was the first solo transatlantic flight, the first transatlantic flight between two major city hubs, and the longest transatlantic flight by almost 2000 miles. Thus it is widely considered a turning point in world history for the development and advancement of aviation.

Masonic Knowledge
•  John Lane’s Masonic Records 1717-1894 is an authoritative listing of all the lodges established by the English Grand Lodges from the foundation of the first Grand Lodge in 1717 until 1894. It was published by the United Grand Lodge of England in 1895 and proved to be a very useful reference book for anyone with an interest in Freemasonry under any of the English Grand Lodges. Masonic Records enables the early history of Freemasonry in a particular place to be readily traced and provides information about individual lodges.
• In 2003, The Centre for Research into Freemasonry and Fraternalism under the Directorship of Professor Andrew Prescott in collaboration with Museum of Freemasonry, London produced an electronic version of Lane’s book. Since 2008, Museum of Freemasonry has been adding lodges that came into existence after 1894 to the database and eventually hope to edit the records of pre-1894 lodges to include meeting places after that date. This new version of Masonic Records is a joint venture between Museum of Freemasonry and the Digital Humanities Institute at the University of Sheffield.” LINK

Masonic Wisdom
•  “The trick is not to become somebody else.” – Bro. Ernest Borgnine

The Last Word
