Good Friday Appeal – April 2 (1)

• Gary Edwards, Taskforce VAT Chair, writes: “After regrettably missing the collection for the first time in more than 30 years due to the pandemic in 2020, Freemasons Victoria Lodges will be collecting for the Royal Children’s Hospital on Good Friday (April 2). The collection will again be undertaken jointly in association with the Uncle Bobs’ Club.

• “Each Lodge will be allocated one or more appeal collection sites for Good Friday. As in past years, these will be at 7-Eleven or Apco Service Station stores. Lodges are asked to develop a roster of two volunteer collectors for each store entry across the day, between 8am and 4pm-4.30pm. Brethren are encouraged to seek assistance with the collection from family members and friends.

• “All volunteers will wear a tabard while collecting. Tabards will be provided, and as the collection is a joint venture, these will generally be one Freemasons Victoria, and one UBC tabard for each store entry.

Good Friday Appeal – April 2 (2)

• “All collectors are required to hold a current Working With Children Pass. These are available free of charge to charity volunteers on-line or from major Post Offices. If a current WWC Pass is not held, please apply for one well prior to Good Friday

• “Lodge Secretaries, or their Lodge’s Community and Charity Work Co-Ordinator/Taskforce Representative are requested to read out this notice at their Lodge’s next Second Time of Rising, seek and roster volunteers, and to include the Good Friday Appeal on their Lodge’s calendar for 2021.

• “Advice regarding CALVID safe collection methods will be provided when confirmed. Other details and Collection Kits will also be provided in due course.

With the support of us all, the 2021 Good Friday Appeal will be a great success, helping many sick and needy children.

• “For information, contact your Lodge’s District Co-Ordinator or RWBro. Bernard Henry, Deputy Chairman, FV Taskforce VAT, and UBC Liaison.

Masonic Mailbag
• Dennis Middendorp writes: “Thanks for the latest news, which always carries items of interest, and sometimes sadness. I’m referring to the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of Milton Alexandrakis. Milton and I had played together for Installations a few times and he impressed me not only with his skill as a trumpeter, but also as a true gentleman. Milton always offered a friendly greeting and assisted me with advice in my early days as a Grand Lodge  organist. He contributed greatly to Freemasonry Victoria.”

Masons donate $200,000

• Nurses who want to return to work through Oklahoma’s nurse refresher course can now get assistance, thanks to a donation from the Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma, reports the Tahlequah Daily Press. The Foundation has donated $200,000, which translates into 100 scholarships of $2000 each – the cost of the revised nurse refresher program. Famous Freemasons
• Richard John Seddon PC (June 22, 1845-June 10, 1906) was a New Zealand politician who served as the 15th Premier (Prime Minister) of New Zealand from 1893 until his death.•
• In office for 13 years, Seddon is New Zealand’s longest-serving head of government. Sometimes derisively known as ‘King Dick‘ for his autocratic style, he has nonetheless been lauded as one of the greatest, most influential, and most widely known politicians in New Zealand history.

Masonic Knowledge
•  Ken Barnes writes: “The Masonic Cycling Group will be riding in Ballarat on Sunday, March 14, to support and raise funds for research into cancer which is surely the most odiose blot on mankind. There are a variety of rides and activities for everyone and I have selected the 160Km ride which is known as the “Spud” 100 in honour of Spud Frawley who was a regular participant. Donations can be made at www.balaratcycleclassic.com.au or look for my gofundme on my Facebook home page.

Masonic Wisdom
•  ““To enlarge the sphere of social happiness is worthy of the benevolent design of a Masonic institution; and it is most fervently to be wished, that the conduct of every member of the fraternity, as well as those publications, that discover the principles which actuate them, may tend to convince mankind that the grand object of Masonry is to promote the happiness of the human race.” – Bro. George Washington

The Last Word
•  “Life is no brief candle but a splendid torch made to burn ever more brightly.” – Bro. Sir Weary Dunlop
