Vale Bruce Latimer

• We regret to advise of the passing to the Grand Lodge Above above of  RWor. Bro Bruce Graham Latimer PJGW yesterday afternoon peacefully in his sleep, at Cabrini Hospital, surrounded by his wife, his three children and his five grandchildren. Son, Steve Latimer (Master-Elect of Zetland Lodge) said these words at his father’s 65-Year bar presentation: “He was initiated into Lodge of Rhythm No. 419, barely four months after his wedding to the love of his life, Lois, his wife of 65 years, in September 1953. Passed and raised in 1954, he became their Lodge Social Secretary in 1963 until 1968.

In July 1969, he joined Scotch Collegians’ Lodge No. 396, and at the same time, became Junior Warden at Lodge of Rhythm, following onto Senior Warden in 1970 and eventually installed into the chair of King Solomon as Worshipful Master in 1971.  In 1971, he also acted as Pro-WM at Scotch Collegians’ Lodge during Wor. Bro. Tom Turnbull’s absence (interstate).

• “From 1973 to 1977, Bruce was very busy; as Assistant Director of Ceremonies at Lodge of Rhythm, simultaneously 1973-1975 in the same role at Scotch Collegians’ Lodge, becoming their Director of Ceremonies from 1975-1977, as well as Lodge of Rhythm’s Director 1978-1982. After a short break from office, he became Secretary at Lodge of Rhythm in 1983, and oversaw the amalgamation of Lodge of Rhythm and Lodge Melody into Lodge of Rhythm and Melody, where he remained as Secretary until 1996, when their warrant was returned.  In 1984, he obligated me into as an entered apprentice, then as a Fellowcraft, and then again as a Master Mason. In 1994, Bruce again obligated me and installed me into the Chair of King Solomon at Scotch Collegians Lodge No. 396. In 1996, many members from Lodge of Rhythm and Melody joined Lodge of Good Companions No. 647, meeting at Waverley Masonic Centre. In 1999, Bruce again stepped up to the plate (desk) and became Secretary through to 2007.

• “Over and above of his own lodge duties, he performed as Inspector of Workings for The Army Lodge No. 478 at 300 Albert Street and for City of Collingwood Lodge No. 464 at Collingwood from 1996-1999. He was also a Board Member on the UGLV Board of Benevolence from 1989-1997 and a Board Member for Freemasons Homes (now Royal Freemasons) 1991-1994. He was conferred ranks of PGSwdB (1982), PSGD (1989), PGIWkgs (1996) and PJGW (2006). Outside of Freemasonry, Bruce has been a Justice of the Peace (since 1963) and was President of that Association from 1985-1988, and has until recently, volunteered for many years, as a JP at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.View Grand Installations
