Funeral service for Bill Moloney
• Terry Clifton advises that the Funeral Service for the late Wor. Bro Bill Moloney will be held on Thursday at 3.45pm. Live streaming starts around 3.30pm. LINK

Homes during COVID-19

• Chris Tanti, Interim CEO at Royal Freemasons (Homes)ADVISES that visitor access during set times will be carefully expanded within strict requirements. Weekend visits are currently not available. Bookings must be made via the ONLINE SYSTEMVisitors must present evidence of a recent flu vaccination, or they will not be permitted to visit. Each resident can have one visitor per day, for a maximum 45 minutes, in their room.

Masonic Education
• Ange Kenos, Grand Lodge Librarian, asks if there is interest in a weekly or fortnightly meeting under the auspices of the Grand Library. There will be a short talk on a particular theme followed by a friendly discussion. Plans are to include a different volunteer speaker each time. Ben Quickhas volunteered to host education meetings. There are plans to work in conjunction with Brendan Kyne and the Masonic Knowledge team led byIan Buckingham.PDGMs meet• A meeting of about 30 Past Deputy Grand Masters was held online yesterday (Tues.).

Blue Lounge Education Forum
• Kane Ord will be the convenor of a Blue Lounge Social Club Forum at 7pm on Saturday (May 9). “What were the mystery schools of theAncient Greece, Egypt and the Near East? And what connection, if any, do they have with Freemasonry?” The history and secret teachings of some of history’s greatest mystery schools, including the rites of the Eleusinian Mysteries of Greece, the secretive Dionysian Builders of Syriaand the Roman Mithraic mysteries will be discussed.  “These great ‘secret’ societies of the ancient world offer a fascinating vantage point from which to view our Craft, and to enable a more nuanced appreciation of Freemasonry’s symbolic and allegorical heritage.” LINK

VAT leaders meet today
• The four Volunteer Action Team leaders – Paul Brennand (Membership), Matteo Donato (Works), Ian Buckingham (Masonic Knowledge),Ash Long (Communications and Marketing) – will meet today (Wed.) as part of their ongoing fortnightly meetings. The aim is for a combined approach to the work of the volunteer teams.

What is Freemasonry for?

• Brendan Kyne notifies that John Molnar will present a lecture at an online meeting of the Victorian Lodge of Research at 7.30pm on Friday, March 22. Being a non-tyled business meeting, dress is casual, although attendees can wear a suit and tie if they wish. LINK

• Encouragement for the FVTV videos has been sent to Richard Elkington from Barry Minster, Joe Castoro, John Glover, Bruce Paroissien, Peter Bates, Joe Marschall, David Dolling, Merv Romeo, Rodney Lavin, Ian Goddard and Matt Cameron.
• Members have used the Freemasons Victoria Chat page on Facebook to suggest a Masonic colouring book for kids.

Masonic Trivia
• Richard E. Byrd and his pilot Bernt Balchen, both brothers, dropped Masonic flags over the north and south poles. Brother Balchen also tossed his Shrine Fez on the South Pole.• Gordon Cooper, in his Mercury capsule, carried a Masonic coin and a blue Masonic flag on his 22 orbit flight, which he later presented to his mother lodge.
• Montana’s first livestock brand was the Square and Compasses and is still in use. It was registered by Poindexter & Orr of Beaverhead County in 1873.
• Andrew McNair, a Philadelphia Mason, rang the Liberty Bell in Independence Hall of July 8, 1776 to call the people together to hear the reading of the Declaration of Independence. The bell developed a crack when it was rung for the death of Chief Justice Marshall, Past Grand Master of Virginia.
