1. Happy New Year

• New Year greetings to all brethren across Victoria.
• Best wishes to Grand Master Anthony Bucca and wife Anna who have each been facing health challenges over the summer break.
• The 2024 Grand Re-Installation events are in two parts this year. The Quarterly Communication and Grand Re-Installation (tickets $25 each) for Freemasons only will be held from 5.30pm-10pm on Friday, April 5 at Freemasons Bayside. The Grand Banquet (tickets $170 each) will be from 6.30pm on Saturday, April 6, at the Park Hyatt Melbourne. BOOK
• There will be no Quarterly Communication in March 2024.• The Freemasons Lilydale Masonic Centre was completely destroyed by fire on Saturday, December 16. Initial investigations indicate that the fire was not suspicious. In the short- and medium-term, Lilydale-based Lodges will need to organise alternative venues which include Ringwood (15 minutes), Ferntree Gully (23 minutes), Belgrave and Box Hill.
• Works on the $2 million refurbishment of Freemasons Ivalda will soon begin. Grand Secretary Bruce Cowie attended the Northern District Meeting on December 7 to announce the details of the project, and to unveil a plaque to mark the centenary of the laying of the Ivalda Foundation Stone. SEE PHOTOS

• James Seville is to be the new Executive Officer of Chamar and We Care. commencing work in the Chapter and Mark Joint Secretariat from February. He will succeed Chris Wallace who took over the role temporarily following the passing of Wayne Smith. James has most recently been Grand Secretary of Freemasons Tasmania.
• Sunday morning rehearsals for the 2024-25 Grand Lodge Team have already begun at Freemasons Bayside and Freemasons Melbourne.

• The 2024-25 Grand Ceremonial Team is having a getaway weekend at RACV Goldfields Resort at Creswick on Saturday, March 2-Sunday, March 3.
• More than 70 people associated with the 2023-24 Grand Ceremonial Team are attending their weekend getaway at Echuca on the March 22-24 weekend.
• Succeeding Terry Lodge, Ken Cribbes becomes the ‘Big Chief’ for the 2024 Wakanyanas to be held at Queenscliff on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

• Grand Master Anthony Bucca has been encouraging twinning of lodges. Golden Rule and Observance will be having a joint installation on Thursday, January 18. “This will be the first twinning in the metro area and only the third in the state,” advises Ron Boulton. “The current proposal; is that the WM, IPM  and Chaplain, along with the Secretary and Treasurer, will rotate each month. All floor officers, drawn from both lodges, will continue to hold office throughout the year.”

3. ‘Have You Anything To Communicate?’

• The death, late last year, of Brian Porter, Freemason of 57 years,has been communicated by Jeff Cripps, Secretary of Antient York Lodge, Preston.
• Invitations are open for Kellerman Lecturer submissions, for the Australian and New Zealand Masonic Research Council Conference to be held in Sydney from October 17-19. EMAIL Brendan Kyne (Grand Superintendent of Education Designate) for details.
• Giorgio Migliaccio advises that Spring Vale Lodge, with the support of Freemasons Foundation Victoria, donated $10,000 to the springvale Benevolent Society, which helps the needy in the Springvale, Noble Park and keysborough areas.
• Craig HeadRoyal Freemasons Board Chair, has announced: “Respect Group Limited has acquired Royal Freemasons’ Moe and Sale residential aged care homes. It is anticipated that from Monday, February 19, 2024, Respect will own and operate these communities.”
• Ken Caldertells of the multiple $300 presentations (with framed certificate and letter of congratulations) to 19 Year 6 students “from Wedderburn to Clunes and Ampitheatre to Castlemaine”. The scholarships are designed to help students transition to secondary education. The Foundation provides half the funds for these awards.
