Masonic Mailbag
• Tom Stirling writes after yesterday’s item about Blue Lodges: “Just to add to the reason for the ‘Blue Lodge’. This comment is from a small publication put out by DC Tomson of Dundee,Fun Among The Masons, first published in 1937: The winding staircase up to the lodge room was maintained by an old fashioned cleaning lady, who, instead of using  the normal white clay to brighten the stairs used blue. So when some of the brethren were waiting for the secretary to open up, [they] would sit on the stairs, resulting in Blue Bottoms, hence the Blue Lodge.”
