• Edward Cross and Barry Minster advise of the passing of RWor. Bro Donald Murray Harris PGJW of Outtrim Lodge No. 209 on Friday (June 12). Funeral service details are yet to be announced.

Bereavement Acknowledgement

• Richard Elkington is acknowledging the many expressions of condolences following the death of his mother, Isabella: “I attach a shot of some of the flowers and cards received since my mother passed away. Kathleen and myself are overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of brethren across the state. I wanted to keep my mother’s passing quiet but the emails, texts, calls, cards and flowers reinforces the fact that, as a fraternity, we do care about each other. Thanks everyone.”

Grand Installation Countdown: 11 days to go
• Preparations are well underway for the Grand Installation to be held at East Melbourne on Saturday, June 27. Because of COVID-19regulations, the number of people in attendance will be limited. However, that has not stopped Freemasons from making plans to celebrate the big occasion.
• In Melbourne’s Western District No. 117, Emmanuel Marabeliotakisis planning a smart-casual get-together at the Glengala Hotel in Sunshine. 
The venue can only accommodate for a maximum of 50 patrons at a time in its function centre, so it’s first in, best dressed. Use the Trybooking LINK.
• The Quarterly Communication begins at 2pm, followed by the Grand Installation on the big screen.

North-East Gathering
• Freemasons in Victoria’s North-East are going to gather on the recently completed patio at a member’s home to watch the Grand Installation.It is Bring-Your-Own everything, with temperature testing at the gate, with multiple supplies of hand sanitiser. EMAIL

Neville is the pin-up boy

• Neville Emerson, 92, features on the front-page of The Local Paper across Melbourne’s northern and eastern suburbs tomorrow (Wed.).Neville is a member at Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge. He was initiated at St Phillip Lodge No. 409 on August 8, 1950, almost 70 years ago. He is still active with his company, Emerson National Property Consultants, specialising in strata/body corporate management. He was nick-named‘The Marathon Man’ for his participation in three 42-km runs in his sixties.

Remembering Jim Geddes
• Richard Elkington writes: “Just thought I’d drop a line to express my sadness at the passing of Wor. Bro James Alexander Geddes. I knew Jim for 30-odd years as a member of a number of Orders at Mornington and Baxter and really enjoyed his company. Whenever there was some form of natural disaster in Gippsland, Jim would always call and enquire about my safety. I used to wind Jim up by calling him James Arthur. I’ll miss him.”

40+ at MAP3 online presentation
• There were more than 40 relatively new Master Masons in attendance at the MAP3 online presentation conducted last night (Mon.) by Brendan Kyne. “I was impressed with the presentation by video and more so by the enthusiasm and depth of knowledge of our newer crop of MMs,” said one senior Freemason. “Some certainly take it very seriously and the interpretations were interesting and varied to say the least.”

• Many Freemasons have been saddened at the news of Bill Morecroft’s passing. Nobby Forster wrote: “So sad to see Bill Morecroft’spassing. Just the best guy, and a wonderful Mason. Missed by all.”

• Ron Benedykt emailed: “Sorry to hear about Bill Moorecroft, he was a regular down at Lodge Fraternal. I’m attaching a photo of him I discovered whilst attending ANZAC Day ceremony in 2016 at the Hampton RSL. Spoke to Bill about it, from memory he served in the RAAF duringWWII.  He was quite proud of his service and a hugely popular Mason in the Bayside district.”

World News: 63 families assisted
• “It is now six weeks since the Horsham Masonic Lodges (UK) that meet at the Normandy Centre,  working in conjunction with The Café and in support of the local food bank, Horsham Matters, started their hot food provision and delivery initiative,” reports The District Post.

A Good Word for …

• Vern Loeckenhoff posts on the Freemasons Victoria Chat page on Facebook: “How many times have seen a little toddler at the hospital emergency, eyes wide open, and petrified? The ladies who support their husbands associated with Freemasons Victoria, through the Powlett Lodge here in Wonthaggi, have quelled those fears with something remarkable. The photo speaks for itself! Each child that visits BCH here receives one with a label. Freemasonry at its best! One of the volunteers is Jill Demo, who has performed this task for years.”

Masonic Movie Trivia
• Based on H. G. Wells’ 1895 novel The Time Machine,David Filby, played by Alan Young, says to George Wells, played by Rod Taylor: “George, I speak to you as a friend, and even more, as a brother …” although the characters are not related. This line does not appear in the novel.Filby and his four friends all wear watch fobs but none are seen in enough detail to determine if they are masonic. Referring to a hypothetical time traveller, George alludes to another H. G. Wells novel when he says, “Can he change the shape of things to come?”

Oh, and one more thing …
• It is 200 years ago. Freemasonry has been in Australia since the arrival of the First Fleet which landed in Botany Bay, NSW in 1788. Officers and military men who came from England as the first settlers of the country established military Lodges that were granted travelling warrants, with the first Lodge being established as The Australian Social Lodge No. 260IC, which held its first meeting on January 4, 1820 in Sydney.
