$99,980 cheque presented (1)
• From left: Bob Johnston, Sara Jenkins, Neville Wiggins, Ernie Cole
• A cheque for $99,980 was presented by Freemasons yesterday (Wed.) to the Upper Murray Innovation Foundation/Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal/FRRR Bushfire Donation Account. Freemasons Foundation Victoria has funded the project assist with the clearing of this Difficult Access Fencing.
• Bob Johnston with Phil Coulston and Ernie Cold from Benambra Lodge, and Neville Wiggins representing the Freemasons Foundation andFreemasons Victoria, were in Corryong to present a cheque to Corryong Neighbourhood Centre co-ordinator, Sara Jenkins.
$99,980 cheque presented (2)
• Eight months after the bushfires, most property owners have made progress with clearing and replacing their fences. However, many still have small sections of inaccessible areas such as steep, rocky segments, creek gullies and heavy bushland which remain uncleared and a real barrier to finishing their fencing and moving forward.
• The CNC is donating its time and resources to administer the project, while the Freemasons Victoria Taskforce will be doing the leg work – assessing the properties and organising the contractors and equipment and overseeing the clearing work. All the funds will be going directly to the contractors doing the work.
• The 40 property owners who put in an expression of interest for the project in May have been contacted by email or text asking for an update on their difficult access fencing situation. There is a real effort to keep the paperwork to a minimum and streamline the processes, so there are excavators and dozers on the ground in the next few weeks.
Grand Master’s visits
• Ron Boulton posted this success story on social media last night (Wed.): “What a night at Lodge of the Golden Rule. An absolutely enthralling talk by our Master and a discussion that went on and on about the future directions of Masonry. It was such a privilege to have our GM and GSWjoin us and contribute to the discussion.
• “Our master, in his relaxed way, introduced the idea of a modified joining ceremony so that we can, in some limited way, ensure that a potential member feels that they are part of our lodge. Mick’s talk on the Humphrey Pump actually set the tone for the evening – very informative and presented so that even a non-engineer could understand. From a purely local point of view, We were so happy to have our Honorary members,Alan Ambose and Jack Simpson join us, along with our District Co-Ordinator Lionel May.
• “Like all of us in masonry we wonder what the post-COVID world is going to look like – but we hope that some of the discussions that we had tonight may find their way to the discussion table.”
In Black and White
• Allan Paull was featured in the Herald Sun’s In Black and White column which highlighted his nail art.
Jobs to do … just for you
• David Webb, Secretary of St Andrews in the South, has given us a task.He writes: “I am reaching out to ask if the Communications and Marketing Volunteer Action Team has any contacts or assistance in building a lodge website? We currently have one that needs a total overhaul and seeing if there is a template or a company you suggest? We are only after something basic and attractive we can manage easily.” We will put it on our ‘To Do’ list, David.
• Neville Wiggins, District Co-Ordinator of the North-East, writes: “During the Sir Dallas Brooks Daylight Lodge Zoom meeting the question was directed to me about the TV programs on Channel 31 that we in the country never had the opportunity to view. Specifically, I was asked if I would contact you and enquire as to what happened to those programs, do they belong to us and would it be possible to show them again using social media platforms.” We will investigate and do our best to fulfill this request, Neville.
Windsor Masonic Temple
• The Windsor Star (UK) reports: “To step inside the Windsor Masonic Temple is to follow in the footsteps of the men and women (from Prime Ministers to Custodians, from Mayors to Musicians) that have, if only for an evening, called the Windsor Masonic Temple home.
• “The Windsor Masonic Temple is a Masonic home. It is also home to the cherished memories of our friends, neighbors, parents, and grandparents; memories formed through school dances and graduations, weddings and receptions, banquets and (yes) Masonic ceremonies.”LINK

Famous Freemasons
• Canning, George (1770-1827) – Bro. Canning described himself as “an Irishman born in London” and he became a major force in the British Parliament during the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte’s tyrannies in Europe. A statesman as well as a politician, in 1798 he advocated militarily resisting Napoleon and effectively argued against peace negotiations. In 1807, he planned the ‘Second Battle of Copenhagen’ resulting in the capture of the Danish fleet, thus removing any threat posed by it to the Royal Navy’s dominance of the seas. Canning was once wounded in a duel and, much later and in failing health, became the shortest serving Prime Minister of Great Britain – 119 days in 1827.
– Timothy Horton

• There are also Lodges operating under the Scottish Masonic Constitution in countries outside of Scotland. Many of these are countries linked to Scotland and the United Kingdom through the Commonwealth of Nations and prior colonies and other settlements of the British Empirealthough there are several lodges in countries such as Lebanon, Belgium, Chile and Peru, which do not have such connections.• The Grand Lodge of Scotland is independent of, though in amity with, both of the other Grand Lodges established in the UK and Ireland, theUnited Grand Lodge of England and the Grand Lodge of Ireland. As of 2018, it consists of 32 Provincial Grand Lodges in Scotland and 26District Grand Lodges beyond the boundary of Scotland.
