Challenge from President (1)
• Myles King, President of the Board of General Purposes, published a challenge for all members: “My questions are these: Why do we tolerate bad behaviour? Why as an organisation that teaches brotherly love, relief, and truth as its core principles, do we not treat each other with dignity and respect? How many times have you witnessed or heard the character of a brother being assailed, a brother being bullied or subjected to terribly bad behaviour? How many times have you read rude, questionable comments on social media,identified contributors as people you know and chosen to do nothing?
• “Let me put this in context, would you allow your wife, partner, child, or grandchild to be subjected to the same behaviour, the same abuse? Yet we allow that to happen to a brother mason. Did we not pledge, “I will not injure him myself or cause or suffer the same to be done by others” and yet that is exactly what we do?”
Challenge from President (2)
• Myles King continues: “Through our silence, through our inaction, we condone the behaviour and make ourselves complicit because we do nothing. We ask why our membership is declining, but we never question or challenge the way some people choose to behave. It is just not good enough.• “So, my questions are straight forward and less expensive to address than any behaviour reviews or policy changes. Put simply, it is time we all took responsibility. The time to call out bad behaviour is now. There can be no excuses. To be clear, for those among us who cannot treat people with dignity and respect, Freemasonry is not the place for you!”

Baden Powell Lodge 90th Anniversary (1)
• Hayden McManus passes on news of this week’s 90th anniversary of Baden Powell Lodge, which has a Scouting flavour: “Founded on September 29, 1930, a meeting of Scouters was first held at Scout Headquarters on the June 6, 1929 for the purpose of forming a Masonic Lodge.• “The ‘Arrowe Park’ Jamboree, held at Birkenhead, England, in August 1929, presented an ideal opportunity for the leader of the Australian Jamboree Contingent, C.A. Hoadley, in conjunction with W.D. Kennedy, to mention the proposed new Lodge to the newly created Baron Baden-Powell of Gilwell, and to seek his consent to the use of his name for this new Scout Lodge. Lord Baden-Powell readily consented.• “‘BP‘ had often openly expressed his admiration for Freemasonry, and while in Melbourne in 1931 he suitably inscribed the flyleaf of the Lodge VSL:“With best wishes for the success of the Lodge in its good work, Baden Powell of Gilwell.”
Baden Powell Lodge 90th Anniversary (2)
• Hayden continues: “Baden Powell Lodge No. 488, the oldest ‘Baden Powell Lodge’ in the world, is made up of men with links or interests to theScout movement. It strives to support Scouting in Victoria including the funding and execution of projects. In recent years, these projects include:
• For 22 years, presented the Rover Service Award, to the Rover Crew providing the most impactful and outstanding service to Scouting inVictoria;

• Funding to Gilwell Park Scout Camp for the complete reconstruction of the Cleve Cole Hut and the restoration and conservation of the historically significant Russell Troop Room, complimenting other Lodge projects undertaken such as the jetty in the Lachan and the barbecue in the Training Ground;
• The supply of 20 defibrillators to major Scout campsites and activity centres across Victoria;
• Major sponsor to the Victorian Rover Scout ‘Mud Bash’ event over the past four years, and;• Funding to the Tende Beck Scout Group for Scouts with special needs and disabilities to re-build their Hall floor.

Famous Freemasons
•Jackson, Andrew (1767-1845) – 7th President of the United States (1829-1837) and the first ‘Westerner’ to be elected President, nicknamed‘Old Hickory,’ Andrew Jackson was a national military hero for his actions in the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812. Jackson’sadministration addressed many of the significant issues in the formation of the country but was marked by the political partisanship so common in that time. Nevertheless, he left a legacy of a strong presidency. Jackson was an extremely active Freemason and a member of Harmony Lodge No. 1 (originally St Tammany Lodge No. 29 at Nashville). He was also elected Grand Master of Masons in Tennessee for two terms from 1822-24.

Masonic Knowledge
• Richard J. Elman, Past Grand Master and Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Indiana talks how COVID-19 has changed the world. “Where Do We Go From Here? Easy – stay the course; embrace technology; support and help each other; be kind; be patient; be understanding; be circumspect; be resourceful; do not be angry; especially at things you have no control over; adjust; be nimble. Never forget there are people relying on us as Freemasons to show them the way; we must be the hope they need. We ARE the hope we need. The fire to act asFreemasons should be burning with a fervency like never before in all of us – burning so bright that all can see the light, the hope and the good. Teach and practice the Art of Freemasonry for a greater tomorrow. Finally, understand that a new normal is and always has been … normal.”
Masonic Wisdom
• “The best possible way to prepare for tomorrow is to concentrate with all your intelligence, all your enthusiasm, on doing today’s work superbly today.” – Bro. Dale Carnegie.
