Vale Bruce Whitehead
• We regret to advise of the passing to the Grand Lodge Above of RWor. Bro. Leonard Bruce Whitehead, PJGW, at the age of 88, a member of Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge. At his request, there is to be no funeral service. ‘Bruce’ joined Trinity Grammarians’ Lodge on August 11, 1960; was passed the following month; and raised on February 9, 1961. He served in a number of offices, including Worshipful Master in 1974-75, 1981-82 and 1987-88. After Trinity Grammarians’ Lodge closed in June 1990, he was one of a number of Trinity members who joined Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge on November 1, 1990. Because of this five-month gap of membership, Freemasons Victoria records that he would have due for his 60-year service jewel on December 29, 2020. The Worshipful Master and Brethren of Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge convey deepest condolences to Dorothy and the family on their profound loss.

Famous Freemasons
• Putnam, Israel (1718-1790) – One of four Major-Generals at the start of the American Revolutionary War, Freemason Israel Putnam was the only one to serve throughout. He is remembered for his famous shout to his soldiers at the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775, “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes!” Although Putnam never quite attained the national renown of more celebrated heroes such as Davy Crockett or Daniel Boone, in his own time his reckless courage and fighting spirit were known far beyond Connecticut’s borders, through the circulation of folk legends celebrating his exploits. Putnam’s son also entered Freemasonry.
