1. Publishing Arrangements
• We are making some changes to FVNews. There is now a greater volume of material in each issue (3200 words this issue). So we are adding a quick-to-use index. Each headline will have a number, making each report easier to find, simply scroll down.
• Death notices and the What’s On listings will now appear at the foot of each issue.
• As the Editor repairs from injuries, this will be the only issue published this week.
• Now that we are in the COVID recovery period, the overwhelming feedback has been for one issue of FVNews per week, on the same day each week. We have selected Thursdays, starting from next week (May 6).
2. Changes at Change Team
• Garry Sebo is retiring as Chair of the Change Management Team. He remains available for advice and sharing expertise. Robert Brennand will become Acting Chair; Stephen Duns remains as Project Manager. A joint meeting of the Masonic Governing Council and the Change Management Team is being held this week. Grand Master Richard Elkington will report on progress to members.
3. ANZAC Day Observances
• There were a number of ANZAC Day observances around Victoria in which Freemasons were present. Grand Master Richard Elkington says that at the Shrine event he sat next to Bob McIvor, Lodge of the Golden Rule, who is State President of National Servicemen’s Association. “What a lot of work he does.” Richard also ran into Kyle Tyrrell from Carry On Victoria (Unity and Prudence); Jason Cooke, Chief Marshal of the event (Victorian Naval and Military), and Andrew Farquhar. He also saw Terry Clifton and Laurie Jacobs.
4. Lodge run by Younger Members
• A report on Freemasonry where the Lodge is run by younger members has been published in The Times (London). READ MORE
5. Comms Success Stories
• The weekly Freemasons Victoria News full-pages in newspapers across Melbourne, Mornington Peninsula and peri-urban areas have started to appear. This week’s page can be seen HERE. A sample of the recruitment page, being trialled in the Northern District, can be seen HERE
• Damien Hudson, at the Grand Secretariat, reports taking his first membership enquiry sourced from the newspapers: a 68-year-old retiree from Abbotsford, whose family had Masonic characters. The man says he will apply for membership.
6. Masonic Mailbag
• Peter Hamilton writes: “I have read with interest your story about Timboon Lodge No. 821. It has brought back many memories in 1975 the year I was Master of Woodlands 529 when we would visit their Lodge every second year and they would come to us the following year. We would exchange candidates, we would visit them and do a second degree and they would reciprocate the following year. The hospitality of Timboon Lodge was excellent and a most enjoyable time was had by all who attended. There would be approximately 15-20 attending; sadly it all ended when Woodlands handed in their Charter in September 2001.Congratulations to Timboon for having the courage to continue their Freemasonry, they are a Great Lodge and I still have the memories.”
