1. Editor’s Opinion• The black-and-white squares of a Lodge Room pavement tell the story. They denote dark and light. Night and day. Worse times and better times.
• Over the decades of my Masonic membership (70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s and now 20s), I reckon I might have seen ‘just about’ it all.
• My own Lodge Summons once had 80+ members listed. I didn’t know who some of the Brethren were. At our lowest level, there were about 20 names. Now, our numbers are back in the 40s, and growing.
• In some years of the past, some of the Lodge pessimists predicted we would be handing in our Warrant. A few years down the track, we are in the best condition ever, financial and otherwise. We just celebrated our 75-year anniversary of Consecration.
• Even though we are in on again-off again Lockdown times, we can be optimistic about our Masonic future: locally and across Victoria.
• There are a handful of loud critics amongst us in Victoria. They are entitled to their opinion, as I am to mine. The difference is years of Masonic experience. Many of Freemasonry’s critics are young and new, some yet to experience much of life.
• My hope is that we all continue to grow in our Freemasonry. FVNews is about positive messaging: listing our What’s On calendar of events (even during COVID lockdown), celebrating the achievements of brethren, and together building the best possible fraternity.
• When the critics say negative things, they are really revealing more about themselves than our great Brotherhood. If their message is negative, that generally reflects their own personality. Our Society has prospered for centuries, before any of us arrived on the scene. And it will continue to prosper for centuries ahead.
• I invite you to enjoy your Freemasonry with great confidence.
– Ash Long, Editor, FVNews

3. Pithy Paragraphs
• Alan Neal writes about the Yarrawonga Lodge of St David Installation (Aug. 21) being cancelled: “This event was cancelled over two weeks ago because of COVID restrictions. It was again confirmed when NSW state made further restrictions – not allowing members to cross the Murray River. Half the active members live in NSW — a border problem we live with.”
• Freemasons New Zealand has published some Lockdown puzzles. DISCOVER
• Lodge Epicurean has postponed its meeting at the Geelong Club until Tuesday, October 26, says David Webb.
