4. A Mason’s Personal Story
• Xavier Murtagh. Master of Old Scotch Collegians Lodge (and Director of the Freemasons Foundation), never expected to see the plaque at the Monash Children’s Hospital in the circumstances that he did last week. “On Saturday afternoon last week my son Hugo was admitted to the Monash Children’s Hospital after visiting the GP. He had a number of red spots called Petechiae which had developed over the previous week all over his body (little red dots). The GP recommended that we pack our bags and head straight to the Monash Children’s Hospital. The medical team looking after Hugo concluded after various tests that he has a condition called Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Hugo received Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIg) therapy and was monitored on the half-hour.” Holly and Xavier took Hugo home over coming days.• Xavier says: “I am very proud of the work that Freemasons do to support exceptional organisations like the Monash Children’s Hospital. Monash truly have an amazing team of medical professionals who do their very best not just to make sick children better, but to look after their families in the process. They took great care of both Holly and Hugo and I am forever grateful.”
