1. Pithy Paragraphs
• A fee of $25 applies to participate in the ‘Conducting A Masonic Commemoration Ceremony‘ course to be held at Freemasons Ballarat from 10am-4pm on Saturday, September 10. RSVP by August 31: jglover@bigpond.net.au
• Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge held a special meeting at the Lodge Room atop the Charlie Napier Hotel at Sovereign Hill Resort, Ballarat. This was followed by a black-tie dinner with partners, an overnight stay, and a Sunday breakfast. The team building weekend was particularly supported by younger, newer members of the Lodge.
• Army Lodge’s ‘Battle of Long Tan Commemoration Meeting’ at 7.30pm on Friday, August 19 will be something special. The meeting is being supported by the Victorian Naval and Military Lodge and the United Service Lodge. There will be a short address by Gary Edwards, Foundation Master of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Lodge. The main address will be given by Geoff Lowe. A Vacant Chair Ceremony will be conducted; the Grand Master will be in attendance. Book by August 16 with Phil Watson, 0412 286 997.
• Ken Ryall advises that Mordialloc Lodge of Charity will not hold its usual August meeting, but will instead hold a members-only social dinner at a restaurant.
• Samaritan Lodge has sent a $1055 donation to Tweed Daylight Lodge (NSW) for flood victim relief.
• David Todd writes: “Geelong Lodge of Unity Prudence No. 5, with support of Freemasons Foundation, were able to provide assistance to the Shoulder to Shoulder Program being run as part of the Cloverdale Community Centre. The program was created to re-engage with vulnerable adults, the initial program to assist, involved repairing some mowers and whipper snippers in partnership with Learn Local – TAFE. This new support was able to provide woodworking tools which enabled Shoulder to Shoulder to expand their Woodworking to their program.”
• The Grand Lodge of New Zealand will hold its Grand Installation in Wellington from November 11-13.

• Peter Barrand advises that the Portland Observer gave generous coverage of a local Lodge donation to Food4Thought providing students’ free breakfast. The coverage included recognition of a Freemasons Foundation Victoria donation of $4000.
• The support of Freemasons and the Foundation of Community Support Frankston received front-page coverage in The Local Paper. VIEW
• A pictorial full-page about the Glenroy Lodge Installation received press coverage in 38 areas of The Local Paper networkon July 6.

9. Good News Stories• Deputy Grand Master Anthony Bucca bid$511 for a 750ml Blue Johnnie Walker at Bob Jones’s 50-year presentation. He was the under bidder and quite happy when Terry Clifton went to $520. Little did he know that there was a second bottle which he was “requested” to purchase. Past Grand Master Don Reynolds went 50-50 with Tony, and they decided to donate it to Amicus with the proceeds going to Gregory Lodge. The Amicus auction raised $400, with the auction proviso that the bottle was opened on the night. Neither the DGM or PGM scored even a sniff of the contents!
