4. UGLE Statement
• The United Grand Lodge of England has joined with the Grand Lodges of Ireland and Scotland to state that the so-called ‘Grand Lodge of Malaysia’ is “irregular and unrecognisable”. A small group met at a Kuala Lumpur hotel in November to set up the spurious Grand Lodge; it involved several irregular and unrecognised Masonic bodies in India, the Philippines, Queensland, Serbia and Turkey. “Some of these are small, unrecognised splinter groups from their existing Grand Lodges, and at least one individual is apparent a ‘fake mason’ well known as such in his home country.”
• The UGLE statement (Jan. 3) said: “Already aware in advance of the intention of this small group, since 2020 the Grand Lodges of England, Ireland and scotland – and also the Grand Lodge of India – have warned their local Malaysian Brethren not to participate in this unrecognised activity. Any UGLE members involved with the irregular Grand Lodge will accordingly be investigated, and appropriate action taken.”
