Famous Freemasons
• “Schirra, Walter Marty ‘Wally’ (1923-2007) – An astronaut who was made a “Mason at Sight” by the Grand Master of Masons of Florida, Wally Schirra carried several Masonic items with him on his Apollo 7 flight. He was the command pilot on the history-making Gemini 6 flight, which rendezvoused with the already orbiting Gemini 7 spacecraft, the first ever rendezvous of two manned, manœuvreable craft in space. Wally Shirra, won an ‘Emmy’ Award for pictures broadcast from space on the Apollo 7 mission, and was the only astronaut to fly in all three space programs, Mercury, Gemini and Apollo.”
– Timothy Horton
Masonic Knowledge
• “Masonic Etiquette is, by definition, something that is not to be left to an individual to see or to carry out according to his own taste; he conforms to it because it was formally adopted as a conventional requirement for acceptable behavior (whether he sees a good reason for doing so or not).
• “An act of Masonic etiquette is some movement, action, courteous gesture or speech performed at a given time and place, in a certain manner, and according to rule, fixed and imposed by the Fraternity itself. Since the rules are for the good of the Craft as a whole, it affects each member. An organisation such as ours adopts these rules because we need them to carry out our good works in an atmosphere of harmony. They are not empty and meaningless, arbitrarily enacted and imposed for the mere sake of performing them.
• “The rules have been time-tested AND they work.” – www.themasonictrowel.com
Masonic Wisdom
• “Although I hold the highest civil honour in the world, I have always regarded my rank and title as a Past Grand Master of Masons the greatest honour that had ever come to me.” – Bro. Harry S. Truman
The Last Word
• ““The world today does require spiritual and moral regeneration. I have no doubt, after many years as a member of our Order, that Freemasonry can play a most important part in this vital need.” – (Bro.) King George VI
