Happy 102nd Birthday, Bro. Stan• Stan Nelson has been a Freemason since 1948, when he was initiated into Clunes Lodge, following in the footsteps of his father. Stan still enjoys attending Lodge meetings, although the past nine months have been difficult as Zoom meetings are a little difficult with his failing eyesight. He is looking forward with great enthusiasm to going back to a lodge meeting in 2021 at his daylight lodge, Warrawee Park.• George Stanton Nelson will turn 102 years old on Tuesday (Nov. 17). He has lived his life to the full, with more still to come. He has lived through changes in history we couldn’t begin to understand. Over the past hundred years from 1918 to 2020, Stan has seen it all: war, the Great Depression, drought, strikes, technology advancement, the terrible fires of 1939, 1944, 1983, 2009, 2020, women getting the vote, the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918 and now the pandemic of COVID-19.
• In Stan’s words: “I feel I have achieved all in my life I possibly could have. I had a wonderful marriage, and on Peg’s passing, I started another life embracing the world of travel. Throughout my many years in the Craft I have felt privileged to be a Freemason and enjoyed Freemasonry in countries all around the world.

Looking towards 2021 (1)
• Garry Runge, Grand Secretary, advises: “Freemasons Victoria continues to cautiously plan for the re-opening of Masonic Centres and Lodgesin 2021. The Board of General Purposes met last night (Thu., Nov. 12) to consider the unanimous recommendations of the Freemasons Future Recovery Team (FFRT). The decision to have all Masonic Centres closed until at least December 31, 2020, continues. Subject to the announcement of Government restrictions over the coming months, it is hoped to adopt a three-stage approach:• Stage 1. January 1–31, 2021. Prepare Masonic Centres for re-opening, subject to thorough guidelines to be published in a FV Manual to be released prior to Christmas 2020.• Stage 2. February 1, 2021. Masonic Centres and Lodges can re-open for administrative and educational purposes only, subject to strict observance of Government regulations, and our own additional precautions.• Stage 3. Date to be announced (with hopes to be as early as March 1, 2021). Lodges resuming some ritual, subject to distancing and other regulations. The FV Ritual and Ceremonial Committee is currently considering what ritual will be able to take place, and any modifications that might be required.”
Looking towards 2021 (2)
• Garry Runge continues: “In the meantime, Lodges are encouraged to hold social gatherings at outside or commercial locations. It is only 10 weeks to the start of February, and it is important that as many of our members be involved socially, especially across the festive season. It is also time for Lodges to be in contact with applicants/candidates, and for these men to be warmly welcomed to social gatherings. We need to tell them how keen we are for their involvement in the time ahead; we want to give them the best possible Masonic experience in 2021 and forward.• “Our approach is cautious. All dates are subject to confirmation. Given that the average age of our membership is 68, and that many of our members are in the vulnerable health category, we continue to put the wellbeing of them and their families as our top priority. It is going to be an exciting time in 2021 as Masonic friends begin to see each other again in person. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to responsibly return to Lodge.”
Musical assistance wanted
• Neil Gannon writes: “Cohuna 227’s Wor. Bro. Tony Richardson requires assistance in his duties as Lodge Organist. He wants to slow down the Bombers theme song to enable the DC and Deacons to keep time with him. It was recently reported that his grandson, Jye Caldwell, was considering a change from the Giants to the Bombers. This was confirmed Thursday. All assistance appreciated, the words to the new Masonic beat music will be distributed at Lodge meetings in due form.”
