GM’s Anti-Bullying Crackdown

• Close to 1000 Victorian Freemasons viewed Grand Master Richard Elkington’s anti-bullying video in the 48 hours following its release on Friday afternoon (Jan. 29). Even more Masons read the Richard’s script sent out late Friday by Electronic Direct Message. There has been widespread support from members with responses including emails to the Grand Master and Grand Secretary, as well as heavy social media traffic. WATCH THE VIDEO and READ THE MESSAGE

First Zoom Workshop ‘Sold Out’

• The Try Booking site indicates that the first Zoom workshop (Mon., Feb. 8) for the Change Management Forums is already a ‘sell-out’.
• Freemasons Victoria has entered a new era where a number of events have reached ‘sell-out’ status. Last week’s Australia Event, organised by Grand Master Richard Elkington, quickly exceeded its 100-capacity. About 20 minutes into the meeting, an expanded capacity was arranged with Zoom. DGM at Castlemaine

• Tony Bucca, Deputy Grand Master, writes: “Following Grand Lodge rehearsal at Kyneton, made my way to Castlemaine for the Loddon District 103 workshop on “how to recruit candidates” which was the brainchild of DCO Peter Atkin and his hardworking panel.  Topics covered included Recruitment, Participation, Retention and an Open Forum. Very informative and some great ideas. 

• “I also had the honour to present a certificate of merit and pin to Wor. Bro. Les Roberts (pictured) of Southern Cross Lodge, Maldon. The certificate is self explanatory and the pin relates to the Just One program which encourages each member to introduce one prospective member. Also learnt that Bro. Les was instrumental in introducing Make a Wish to Australia.”

March 1 Start Date For Ritual
• Garry Runge, Grand Secretary, has indicated that ceremonial and ritual work might resume from March 1. “In anticipation of this, the Freemasons Victoria Ritual and Ceremonial Committee have produced a document with all the information necessary to do so in a COVID-19 safe way. In accordance with the requirements of the Freemasons Future Recovery Team, instructions are included for how First (Initiation) and Second (Passing) Degree ceremonies may be conducted under these circumstances. As the government regulations and guidelines can and do change, often with little or no notice, it is the responsibility of each Lodge to ensure that all operations are in accordance with those requirements at all times. We look forward to getting back to Lodge safely.” READ MORE

Bowls Day At Rosanna
• Richard Shelly writes: Admiral Collingwood Lodge is hosting an afternoon of Lawn Bowls and a Barbecue at the Rosanna Bowls Club this coming Sunday (Feb. 7). Things kick off at 12 Noon. Those not interested in playing bowls, will still be assured a great time among friends over a casual lunch in pleasing surrounds. Adults $25, kids under12 free. Cost covers venue hire, the green, and barbecue lunch. Drinks are at bar prices. BOOK

World News
• “When Marlborough Freemasons (NZ) gave a bit of their free time for the National Dog Show held in Blenheim back in 2019, they were not expecting any compensation. Assisting with car parking early in the morning of the annual event, they have been offered $2000 from the New Zealand Kennel Club. Freemason Chris Williams said they got together to decide what to do with this money and which group in Marlborough was deserving assistance. “We thought Marlborough Youth Trust could have the most benefit, and we came up with the idea of offering a mobile barbecue trailer that they can use for their fundraising and other events,” said Williams.” READ MORE

Famous Freemasons
• Bro. Walter Percy Chrysler (April 2, 1875 – August 18, 1940) was an American automotive industry executive and founder of Chrysler Corporation. Chrysler was born in Wamego, Kansas, the son of Anna Maria Chrysler (née Breymann) and Henry Chrysler. He grew up in Ellis, Kansas, where today his boyhood home is a museum. His father was born in Chatham, Ontario in 1850 and immigrated to the United States after 1858. A Freemason,  Chrysler began his career as a machinist and railroad mechanic in Ellis. He took correspondence courses from International Correspondence Schools in Scranton, Pennsylvania, earning a mechanical degree from the correspondence program.

•  Geoff Newby, District Co-Ordinator for Gippsland East, writes: “I am of the very strong view and belief that 2021 will be a great year for Freemasonry. I encourage you to participate in the ‘Coming Together‘ of Freemasonry and get involved in the Change Management program. There are opportunities to be part of the positive change and have your say, by attending either in person or at a Zoom meeting. The details of these have been sent out by the Grand Secretary. An update of the program’s progress will be provided at the March Quarterly. I encourage you to attend all Quarterly Communications so that you can hear the messages and information first hand and vote on any motions. You have a right to vote, and you can do that now electronically, even from home.”

• Peter and Deidre Crick write: “Freemasons Foundation Victoria supported Melon’s Cottage in Lakes Entrance with a donation of $5000. Bairnsdale OSM added money to the donation and members spent hours helping to shift mulch, prune and replant in the garden and improve the sloping backyard. There are now five separate play or rest areas which are all wheelchair accessible. A swing area, sunny retreat with chairs, a slide and climbing set, a cubby house, wet play station, super large jenga, and building spot as well as chalk boards will keep children entertained.
• “The overall yard refurbishment is now complete and  was installed for the pleasure of very ill children. A television program was aired in January  detailing all the work that was completed over two weekends by a huge group of volunteers. Melon’s Cottage, in memory of Eli who died from cancer at 15 months, brings relaxation, pleasure and enjoyment to many families with very ill children. Thank you, Freemasons Foundation Victoria, for helping to make this possible.”
