Vale Jock Fleming
• RWor. Bro (Daniel John) Jock Fleming PJGW was killed suddenly on Saturday night, advises Alan Sewell.Jock was a member of Mitchell Lodge Broadford, also Pillar of McIvor Mark, only coming out of the chair at the last meeting.
Busy week for Richard, Kathleen
• Richard and Kathleen Elkington (pictured)had a busy Mothers Day weekend. Richard, Grand Master-Elect, has been preparing his Grand Installationaddress. His projects include a Vision Statement to be delivered to the membership across Victoria, to give a clear roadmap of where the Craft is headed. Richard has also been working on his communications calendar to members. His two videos – No 1 and No 2 – have already had 1243 views.
• Richard and Kathleen had Mothers Day celebrations. Elder son Jeremy dropped by with presents and flowers. Younger son – Andrew (a Freemason) –also sent his good wishes.
Spudfest success
• Darren Poinen and his brethren lent strength to the Spudfest held at Trentham on Saturday, May 2. Damian Byrne, Admiral Collingwood Lodge, says that Darren, a 2018 Leadership Program graduate, and the members of Darren’s Lodge are doing some fine work within their local and surrounding communities. Damian says: “It’s encouraging to see the great work and tireless devotion of the members of the Lodge who are doing their very best to be just, upright and positive contributors in their community.” LINK
Swan Hill media coverage
• Swan Hill Lodge’s donation of $1000, backed by a Freemasons Foundation of $4000, towards the Chances For Children project received good publicity in the Swan Hill Guardian newspaper. The donation was made in memory of Peter Doig. Master Bill King and Treasurer Jim Thompson were quoted in the report about the educational program which has supported 1850 children from the Mallee region.

• Essex Freemasons are helping to fund a £100,000 research project to scale up antibody tests for COVID-19 across the east of England. LINK
• In Belfast, Freemasons have found 3000 rolls of toilet paper to help those who need it. LINK
• Freemasons from Seven Towers and Masserene Masonic District Charity Committee have pulled together funds for the Simon Community in Ballymena (Northern Ireland) providing a total of 2000 safety gloves. LINK

• The Glenelg Lodge (South Australia) has donated a welcome piece of firefighting equipment to the Kingscote CFS brigade on Kangaroo Island. A FLIR K2 thermal imaging camera was presented to the KI mayor Michael Pengilly by Peter Crispe and Robert Beer of Parndana Masonic Lodge. LINK

Suddenly you can go to a monthly Zoom meeting of a Melbourne lodge where they have a guest speaker as the night’s work, instead of the usual fare. :Or, instead you can attend the next regular meeting of the Discovery Lodge of Research (NSW/ACT) on this Thursday (May 14)). Usually you would have to make the trip to Sydney to attend a meeting of Discovery, but this Thursday you can visit from the comfort of your own home.” LINK

• Hiram Abiff Boaz, born Dec. 18 1866 in Murray, Kentucky, received his degrees in 1922 before an unusually large crowd and served as Grand Chaplain (Texas) in 1953.• Joseph A. Gilmore (1811-1867), former governor of New Hampshire was made a Mason at sight on April 28, 1863. He received Scottish Rite degrees and was awarded the 33rd degree on May 7, 1863 – only nine days later.
• Between 1890 (when it became a state) and 1951, every Governor of Wyoming, except one, was a Mason. The one, Mrs. William A. Ross, was the wife of a mason and a member of Eastern Star.
• Every President from Tennessee was a Mason (Jackson, Johnson, Polk)
• President F.D. Roosevelt raised two of his sons on the same night, Nov 7, 1935 – Architect Lodge No 519 in New York.
