Honour for the late John Wilson

John Wilson’s honour is reported in The Local Paper – Eastern Edition this Wednesday (June 10)

The late John Roger Wilson, formerly of Rowville, was remembered in the Queen’s Birthday Honours announced today (Monday, June 8).MWor. Bro. Wilson was posthumously award-ed with the medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division (OAM)His wife Lois will receive the medal in his honour.MWor. Bro. Wilson was Grand Master of Freemasons Victoria in 2001-02.He was a former Board Member and Chair of Committees of the Freemasons Hospital.MWor. Bro. Wilson was also a former Board member of the Royal Freemasons Homes for Aged Care.His award citation reads “for service to the community through a range of roles”.MWor. Bro. was a member of the Richmond Football Club from 1960-2019. He was a former senior player, 1959.MWor. Bro. Wilson was a former member of the Richmond FC Past Players and Officials’ Association.He played in six senior games after being recruited from Melbourne High School.Born on May 18, 1940, MWor. Bro. Wilson died on June 15, 2019.

Honour for Geoff Dare

Glen Waverley military historian Geoff Dare has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for service to veterans and his research work.Mr Dare has been Vice-Chairman of the Norman A. Smith Memorial Scholarship Committee of the Waverley Sub-Branch, Returned and Services League of Australia since 2006.He has served as Committee Member since 2005, and Sub-Branch Delegate, Returned and Services League of Australia’s State Conference.Mr Dare has been Appeals Officer, and Editor The Dispatch newsletter. He has also held the position as Sub-Branch Historian.Mr Dare was inaugural President of the Monash Sub-Branch, National Servicemen’s Association Australia. He is a Life Member.He has been a member for five years of the South-Eastern Sub-Branch, National Servicemen’s Association Australia.He was inaugural Editor in 2011 of the National Boer War Memorial Association (Victoria), serving as a Committee Member, 2010-2017.Mr Dare has been a Committee member of the Boer War Association of Victoria. He is a keen military historian and his research includes Victorian enlistments in the Boer War and World War I, and identification of WWI enlistees from the former Shires of Mulgrave and Oakleigh (now the City of Monash).Mr Dare is keen on the preservation of historical records and photographs associated with Australians in World War I.He is a member of Lodge Liberation of Freemasons Victoria, and holds the grand rank of Past Junior Grand Warden.

Honour for the late for John Matthew Muir
The late Wor.Bro. John Mathew Muir, formerly of Tatura, has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, for service to the community through a range of roles”.At Tatura Lions Club, he was Charter Member since 1971; Life Member, since 2011.His citation reads that he is a former President of Freemasons Victoria. He has been a Member since 1954; a member of Kyabram Lodge since 2011; and Past Worshipful Master, Rodney Lodge.His other community involvements includie being a member, of Kyabram Engine Club for many years; and a member of Tatura Sub-Branch Returned and Service League of Australia.Wor. Bro. Muir was Australia Day Senior Citizen of the Year, Tatura, this year.
